Insuring restaurants provide safe food to customers is one of the Health Department’s largest responsibilities, according to Joe Ebel, Licking County Health Commissioner. In an effort to carry out this responsibility, the Licking County Health Department is slated to hold its Level 1 Food Safety class twice this February.
The classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and on Feb. 24 at the Health Department, 675 Price Road, Newark. The classes are open to the public and free of charge.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates one out of every six Americans suffers from a foodborne illness each year. Properly cooking, storing and handling food can reduce the risk of contracting this type of illness.
