New pharmacy and health food store in Waterford

Our small town of Waterford is now pleased to welcome a second pharmacy recently opened on Alice Street.

Waterford Pharmacy and Health Food is a full-service pharmacy with natural health food all under one roof operated by co-owners Kay Eshkour and Amin Boomani.

Boomani, as managing director, is overseeing the store management and set-up since it opened just over a week ago. More products are due to arrive to complete the range of stock on the shelves. He readily greets people and is willing to help.

“An awareness of healthy living, including proper diet and exercise, is the focus of this pharmacy,” said Eshkour.

He went on to explain that as a pharmacist he’s aware of drug interactions and how they can cause nutrient deficiencies. With the holistic approach at this store, he could recommend suitable supplements to offset the interactions.

Eshkour has researched and found four companies whose products he suggests. Many are suited for gluten free and vegan diets, with attention given to the methods of processing the products. There are also essential oils, natural herbs and specialty teas available.

Cassandra Griffiths has joined their team, with qualifications of a health, wellness and fitness diploma. She is also certified as a nutrition and weight loss adviser. Individual or group sessions can be arranged to explain and offer suggestions about vitamins and supplements or about diabetes.

Kay Eshkour said he loves small communities where you can get to know customers on a first-name basis. He has moved to Waterford and is getting to know the area and all it has to offer.

Eshkour completed his pharmaceutical undergraduate work at the University of Waterloo. He has practised in larger pharmacies and has run small community pharmacies in Thornton and Wilburforce.

Eshkour, Boomani and Griffiths welcome an opportunity to meet people in the community. Drop by Waterford Pharmacy and Health Food at 29 Alice Street, Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sundays the pharmacy is closed, but the health food section is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Phone 519-443-0123 for more information.
